Downtown Tree Lighting
COST OF PROJECT: $41,137 ($9,500 in DDA funds, $15,000 in City funds, and $16,637 in private donations)
COMPLETION DATE: Ongoing
The Charlevoix DDA initially partnered with the City of Charlevoix Electric Fund to usher in a new era of Downtown tree lighting in 2007. At the time, the DDA and Electric Fund split the cost of purchasing new energy efficient light emitting diode, or LED tree lights for the trees located on City streets along the east and west sides of Bridge Street.
The tree lighting project underwent a significant renovation in fall 2012 as the display was converted from the "cool white" light hues to a more traditional "warm white". Funding the renovation was a joint effort between the Charlevoix DDA, City of Charlevoix Electric Fund and private benefactors.
In 2013 the DDA, City and private donors again added to the lighting display by illuminating the large trees in East Park, the Community Christmas tree, and the landscaped area around the Trout Habitat.
The ongoing lighting project has been one of the most successful forms of government and private partnership in the DDA district.
