Charlevoix is a boaters’ mecca with well-protected harbors on Round Lake and Lake Charlevoix with easy access to Lake Michigan.
After 5 years of planning and construction, the new Charlevoix Public Marina opened July 3, 2007. The approximately $11 million project increased dock space to accommodate 67 boats (from 50). "It is gorgeous" said Harbormaster Hal Evans. The Inland Waterways Commission funded about $6.2 million of the cost.
The marina is located in the yacht basin on Round Lake downtown with utility hook-ups, showers, and restrooms. Pump- out facilities and fuel are adjacent to the public marina. There are also shoppers' docks. Additional slips and services are provided by many of the area’s private marinas. A U.S. Coast Guard Life Boat rescue station is located in the city and fully manned year-round.
A public boat launch with ramps and ample parking is located next to Ferry Beach at the end of Stover Road off of M-66. The Michigan Department of Natural Resources offers a public launch on Lake Michigan just north of A.L.P. Lighting Components on U.S. 31. and also on Lake Charlevoix at Ironton off M-66. Charlevoix Township has a launch for small boats at the end of Lake Shore Drive near St. Mary's Cement Company on Lake Michigan.
